…was f***ing cool.

Yeah so the story isn’t really that interesting or engaging, and the script is atrocious if not garbage at best. BUT — I’m not exaggerating here — the fight scenes are sooo amazingly and ridiculously badass, you wouldn’t even care when the characters spit out gibberish phrases and such. It’s that cool.

Not to mention, also, it makes the Clash of the Titans remake look like a Saturday morning cartoon compared to this one’s Ninja Scroll.

Oh, and the art design and visuals are spectacular as well. Tarsem Singh has a stylish vision that feels like a bizarre and edgy version of Fumito Ueda’s art style. Well, except maybe for Mickey Rourke’s head gear which was odd. Extremely odd. Speaking of games: Immortals is the closest thing we have to a God of War live action movie. So whoever is choreographing the fight scenes of the live adaptation of David Jaffe’s creation — if it’s still on production that is — should at least take some notes.

Watch it for the fights, alone, and you’ll have your money’s worth. Just make sure to expect a couple of sluggish and tedious scenes that are sprinkled in between.

  1. It’s probably one of the best-looking films of the whole year (yet, I still haven’t seen Tree of Life) and the action is awesome and in-you-face which is something I always like. The story dragged on a bit and I couldn’t help but think that if the writing was a tweaked a little better, this would have definitely been a very solid film. Instead it was just fun and pretty to look at. Good review.
