I knew something serious was up, but I wasn’t expecting it to be that serious. Here’s the pseudo official statement according to Capcom (via the Capcom-Unity boards):
“We’d like to thank you for your ongoing loyal support of Mega Man Legends 3. Today, however, we must regrettably announce the discontinuation of this project…
…Unfortunately it was not felt that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project met the required criteria, and it is with regret that we must announce that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project has been cancelled, meaning that Capcom will not be releasing the Prototype or the full game. Additionally, updates of the Mega Man Legends Developer Room will cease as of today, though the North American Developer Room and its forums will remain open indefinitely.”
Bummer. Both Mega Man Legends for the PSone were solid, crafty action-RPGs and were loved by fans generally, especially the loyal supporters of Capcom’s blue robotic mascot.
I really enjoyed those games myself, personally, and have been wishing for an update since just like the rest. Heck– I remember being so giddy when this was announced last year, and it’s probably one of the few reasons why I wouldn’t mind picking up a 3DS in the future. Guess I’ll be saving some cash then this holiday season… which isn’t really a bad thing. Thanks Capcom!
