Just literally got back from the special screening and y’know what? Slay the haters and nitpickers. Shoo ’em because I had a wonderful time!
Peggy and Frost’s writing (script) and acting were brilliant as always, and virtually the same applaud goes to Greg Mottola’s directing. I think this could be my favorite of all of his major films –which I all adore– namely Superbad and Adventureland. The subtle pop culture references fancied me a lot and I believe that’s one of the key reasons why this movie isn’t exactly for everybody. You really have to be a geek to fully appreciate the lil things. But it’s far from perfect either for there are moments that can be seriously toned down like the girl’s abusive cursing (even though it’s part of the character’s development, ish).
But hey again I really had a good time, and if you like Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Seth Rogen, Bill Hader, Joe Lo Truglio and Jason Bateman: then you too will have a blast. Plus points if you can figure out why Paul ordered Reese’s Pieces, identify the tune the country band was playing in the bar, and who Jason Bateman was referring to when he shot the transmitter.
